Can my sermon notes trigger the lights?

The story starts and the house dims. The prayer starts and the stage goes warm. Nobody is standing at the board.

The short answer

Yes, with ServantSync on your media computer. Attach a cue to a part of your sermon, like a story or a prayer, or set one for every block of that kind. When you reach it in preach mode, ServantSync sends the cue: OSC to a lighting console, QLab or Resolume, or an HTTP request to Home Assistant or a smart plug. MIDI isn't supported yet. ServantSync is $29 a month or $299 a year per media computer.

“Hey pastor! Hit the lights!”

Nobody at the board

Small churches rarely have a lighting operator during the sermon. So the lights stay the same all service, or someone slips up to the board during the closing song. Either way, the room doesn't change when the moment does.

Cues on the blocks you already write

Your sermon is already in blocks: points, verses, stories, prayers, a closing. In ServantSync, attach a cue to a block and it fires when you reach it. Or set a default by kind, and every story dims the house and every prayer warms the stage without mapping each one.

  • Defaults by kind: every story, every prayer
  • Several cues on one block
  • Rehearse with Live off. Nothing fires.

What it can talk to

OSC reaches lighting consoles that accept it, plus QLab and Resolume. HTTP reaches anything with a web address: Home Assistant scenes, smart plugs, webhooks. Each connection has a test button, so you know it works before Sunday.

  • OSC over your local network
  • HTTP for Home Assistant and smart plugs
  • ProPresenter slides from the same cues

“Every head bowed.”

One press, many cues

A closing block can clear the screen, bring the house down and cue the keys together. Blackout and Clear sit one tap away on your phone in case you need them.

Honest fit

Is ServantSuite right for you?

A good fit if

  • Your console, QLab or Resolume accepts OSC
  • You control house lights with Home Assistant or smart plugs
  • Nobody runs lights during the sermon

Look elsewhere if

  • Your console only takes MIDI. ServantSync doesn't send MIDI yet.
  • You want light shows timed to the music. Use your console's own cue list for the worship set.
  • You only need one look all service. Then you don't need a $29 app for it.

FAQ

Questions pastors ask.

Which lighting consoles work?

Any console that accepts OSC over the network. Check your console's manual for OSC support, then use ServantSync's test button to confirm.

Does it support MIDI or DMX?

Not directly. ServantSync sends OSC and HTTP. A console that takes OSC handles the DMX side.

Can it control house lights on smart plugs?

Yes, if the plugs accept HTTP requests directly or through Home Assistant.

Do I need ProPresenter to use lighting cues?

No. Lighting and HTTP cues work on their own.

What does it cost?

$29 a month or $299 a year per media computer, with a 14-day free trial. Writing and preaching are free.
