Guide · Writing the sermon
What's the best free sermon writing software?
Free can mean a trial, a credit limit or free for good. Here is what each option gives you, so you can pick the one that fits your week.
Free forever. No sermon limit, no card.
The short answer
It depends on what you need after the writing. Google Docs and Apple Pages are free and familiar, but they know nothing about sermons. SermonForm and ServantSuite are sermon editors that stay free with no time limit. ServantSuite also carries the sermon to Sunday: you preach from your phone or tablet, your whole team joins free, and your notes can go to Planning Center.

What free should include
A sermon is not a memo. You want points you can move, verses you don't copy from a website, and a library you can search next year. Before you pick a tool, ask three questions.
- Is it free for good, or a trial that ends?
- Can you preach from it, or do you still print?
- Can you take your sermons with you as Word or PDF?

Where ServantSuite fits
ServantSuite is a sermon editor first. Type / for a point, a verse, a story or a closing. Type a reference and the passage is there. Every sermon saves as you type and stays grouped by series.
Then it carries the sermon to Sunday. Tap Preach and the same notes open on your phone or tablet. Invite your worship leader and media volunteer, free. Connect Planning Center, free.
- No sermon limit, no member limit, no card
- Export to Word, PDF or text any time
- Version history on every sermon

What we charge for
One thing costs money: ServantSync, the app on your media computer that runs ProPresenter slides and lighting cues as you preach. It is $29 a month or $299 a year per media computer, with a 14-day free trial.
If you never need the booth to run itself, you never pay. A pastor's writing tool shouldn't have a meter on it.
Honest fit
Is ServantSuite right for you?
A good fit if
- You preach weekly and want one home for every sermon
- You want to preach from a phone or tablet instead of paper
- Your team needs to see the sermon before Sunday
- Your church uses Planning Center or ProPresenter
Look elsewhere if
- You want AI to draft or rewrite your sermon. We don't do that.
- You need ESV, NIV or another licensed translation built in. We carry 12 public-domain translations today.
- You want commentaries and word studies inside the editor. Keep your study tools beside us.
- You need a native iPad app. Ours runs in Safari for now.

FAQ
Questions pastors ask.
Is ServantSuite really free?
Yes. Writing, preach mode, series, your whole team and Planning Center are free with no time limit and no sermon limit. The only paid product is ServantSync, which runs slides and lights from the media computer.
Is there free sermon software without AI?
Yes. ServantSuite never writes or rewrites your sermon. AI is used once, when you import a Word file, to tag your paragraphs as points and notes. SermonForm describes itself as built without AI.
Can I just use Google Docs?
You can, and many pastors do. It is free and easy to share. What it lacks is sermon structure, built-in scripture and a way to preach without printing. Google Docs sermons come into ServantSuite as Word downloads or by pasting.
What happens to my sermons if I stop using ServantSuite?
They are yours. Export any sermon as Word, PDF or plain text, free, at any time.
Which Bible translations are included?
12 public-domain or free translations, including KJV, WEB and ASV. Licensed translations like ESV and NIV are not built in yet. You can paste their text into your notes.
Does free include my team?
Yes. Invite your staff and volunteers. Team members are unlimited and free.
